Current evaluation

Proposal to publish Charmhub-hosted libraries as pip packages was redirected to Charmhub while broader charm-library dependency management was reconsidered.

Resolution: closed not a bug

Reason: No implementation was made in Charmcraft. A maintainer said the request belonged on Charmhub and that charm-library dependency management was already under discussion; no resolving PR, commit, or replacement issue was recorded.

Issue body

Currently, libraries for managing relationships have to be vendored (included as a source file) for a charm. This means that the charm repository includes duplicate code from a related charm which pollutes PRs and adds unnecessary code to the repository. An alternative is to publish the library files as pip installable packages from charmhub, which would also make things like version management easier
