Current evaluation

Maintainers kept snap as the official install, declined .deb/PPA packaging, and added PyPI installation instructions in merged PR #691 (43241f1e).

Resolution: closed resolved

Reason: The maintainer explicitly declined .deb/PPA distribution and retained snap as the officially supported method. The requested PyPI documentation was added and merged through PR #691 in commit 43241f1e.

Issue body

Over and over again we get stuck after snaps auto-update. Snaps are a problem in many situations and we would like to discuss this situation and help move forward. I'd like to request a .deb charmcraft for Ubuntu, that is built automatically and pushed to a PPA. This would serve as a starting point for the community to package charmcraft for other OSes and foster the ecosystem as a whole. As a short term workaround, we could install charmcraft from PyPI, but I could not find any documentation on how to do that and get to a working state. Could you provide official docs for that?
