Current evaluation

Prototype partition-alias mechanism was left unmerged and superseded by #1144, which made the first lifecycle partition the default and added per-partition migration-state tracking.

Resolution: closed superseded

Reason: Maintainer upils closed the prototype explicitly in favor of canonical/craft-parts#1144. The replacement merged as commit 42c7216f and shipped in 2.16.0 with a simpler first-partition-as-default design.

Issue body

- [ ] Have you signed the [CLA](http://www.ubuntu.com/legal/contributors/)? - [ ] Have you added an entry to the changelog (`docs/reference/changelog.rst`)? ----- Introduce a `PartitionMap` class to express the relation between concrete partitions and aliases. When initializing the `LifecycleManager`: - Initialize a `PartitionMap` and pass it around (instead of a list of partitions). - Immediately resolve the alias to `default` in FilesystemMounts to only have concrete partitions in it. Also adapt `get_partition_dir_map` to return the concrete partition directories when requesting a directory map for an alias. Usage in craft-application https://github.com/canonical/craft-application/tree/work/prototype-alias Usage in Imagecraft https://github.com/canonical/imagecraft/tree/work/prototype-alias DO NOT MERGE
