Current evaluation

Merged as 99d694c; PR #810 made LXC/LXD version checks use the API first, fall back to CLI output, and accept unparseable edge versions, fixing #535.

Resolution: closed resolved

Reason: PR #810 was merged with commit 99d694c after approval and all CI checks passing. Its robust API-first version detection and CLI fallback directly resolve issue #535.

Issue body

This makes the LXD version check more robust by doing the following: 1. Both the LXC and LXD versions first try using the API. 2. If that fails they fall back to the existing command-based version. `LXD.is_supported_version` assumes the version is supported if it cannot be parsed (for example, edge versions with version "git-[commit]") Fixes #535 CRAFT-2619
