Current evaluation

Proposed opt-out cleanup of overlay artifacts remains under discussion; machine-id must remain present but empty, and deletion of user-modified files needs warnings.

Suggested action: keep open

Reason: Maintainers are refining the requirements: mwhudson requested that machine-id remain present but empty by default, while steinbro asked for warnings when cleanup removes files users changed. No matching cleanup or machine-id handling was found in the inspected tree, and the lifecycle hook, opt-out behavior, change detection, documentation, and tests still require design and implementation.

Issue body

### Check existing issues - [x] I've verified that this request isn't described by any existing issues. ### Request Make a post-prime hook (that can be opted out of) that deletes certain files. Said list of files should be documented and static for any build base. The list includes, but is not necessarily limited to: - `/etc/machine-id` - `/etc/passwd-` - `/etc/shadow-` - `/etc/gshadow-` - `/etc/group-` - ### The problem it solves Using overlays leaves a lot of files behind that we don't actually want left.
