Issue body
I was trying to make snap of my old qt based 2048 application which is serving in software center in 14.04 etc , so am sure nothing is wrong with it .
Snapcraft gave output which is useless and exit after completing few build steps.

when i issue snapcraft command it download stage packages and at end show this message- "expected string or bytes-like object" and gets exit.
as the message itself is irrivalent i am unable to understant what should i do. so is ran snapcraft --debug which gave me this output - http://paste.ubuntu.com/21499579/
am sure snapcraft should output some good information about what goes wrong and where .
