Issue body
This was the guide I followed:
https://docs.snapcraft.io/build-on-lxd/4157
After getting this error:
https://pastebin.com/RaXcfRFH
I was notified on the snappy IRC chat that running an lxd container wouldn't allow me to access the msr module. I'm using Linux Mint BTW that's why I tried the lxd guide.

| #1912 lxd: unset SNAP to work-around LXD deb thinking it's a snap | snapcraft | closed | Rejected and closed. Maintainers declined the workaround, preferring a proper fix in LXD or a redesigned environment handler. The pull request was abandoned without merging despite ongoing user breakage. | |
| #1746612 Snapcraft cleanbuild doesn't work if you're not using the LXD snap | snapcraft (launchpad) | closed | Closed without resolution. Snapcraft hardcodes the LXD snap path during cleanbuild, causing failures with deb-installed LXD. The report appears abandoned or superseded by updated Snapcraft versions that dynamically detect LXD installations. | |
| #1666735 snapcraft cleanbuild does not work with lxd installed via snap | snapcraft (launchpad) | closed | Closed without resolution or merge. The report notes snapcraft cleanbuild fails to detect LXD installed via snap, suggesting checks via snap list or lxc list instead of apt cache. No fix was implemented or documented. | |
| #1851905 Unable to build with lxd when using lxd with lvm pool. | snapcraft (launchpad) | open | Snapcraft 3.8/3.9.2 fails with --use-lxd when LXD uses a custom LVM pool, due to a hardcoded /var/snap/lxd/common path. 6+ years old, no labels, no maintainer interaction, no comments. | |
| #1700703 container builds fail after creating the container | snapcraft (launchpad) | closed | Closed without comments or resolution. The LXD id mapping failure during snapcraft container builds was likely abandoned or superseded by newer container build implementations. |
