Current evaluation

Asks snapcraft to stop warning about editor backup files like snapcraft.yaml~ in snap/. The check in snapcraft/parts/project_check.py still flags any non-allowlisted path; no backup-file exemptions added. Unlabelled, no maintainer response.

Suggested action: needs triage

Reason: The report is a valid, reproducible UX complaint: snapcraft/parts/project_check.py still lists only snapcraft.yaml, .snapcraft, hooks, keys, local, plugins and gui in _EXPECTED_SNAP_DIR_PATTERNS, so snapcraft.yaml~ still triggers the 'non-snapcraft-related paths' emit in _check_snap_dir at HEAD; a grep for backup/swap-file patterns returned no matches, so nothing has been fixed. The check is working as originally designed (commit d8db387fd 'parts: check for extra files under assets dir') and the wording was only reformatted by 35ed040d2, so the request needs maintainer input on whether to allowlist backups or soften the message — and with no labels, assignee, or comments there is no sign of triage, hence needs_triage rather than keep_open.

Issue body

When I'm developing a snap project and run snapcraft, I get the following warning message: The snap/ directory is meant specifically for snapcraft, but it contains the following non-snapcraft-related paths, which is unsupported and will cause unexpected behavior: - snapcraft.yaml~ If you must store these files within the snap/ directory, move them to snap/local/, which is ignored by snapcraft. The check for non-snapcraft files is a good idea, but having it trigger for common cases like backup files from editors is just noise. Worse, it could lead to people missing real problems if they start ignoring the message "because Snapcraft always prints that".
