Current evaluation

Report that Flutter extensions on Core base render squares/missing fonts was closed stale by janitor (~janitor, 2021-10-13) after 60 days of no activity; no code fix was made.

Resolution: closed stale

Reason: Launchpad bug1919970 was auto-closed by ~janitor on 2021-10-13 with the comment "Expired for Snapcraft because there has been no activity for 60 days." The last substantive reply (~sergiusens, 2021-08-13) only asked whether it should be discussed on discourse; no snapcraft commit or PR addressing Core font staging landed.

Issue body

When running apps built with one of the flutter- extensions on Core, they're missing fonts and render squares (or not at all). While it's customary for Flutter apps to BYOF, the decorations are drawn by Gtk, and with a font selected by the user/theme. It works fine on classic because the desktop/desktop-legacy interfaces give access to the system fonts. One approach is to stage enough fonts in the snap so that it renders fine: https://github.com/Saviq/flutter-gallery-snap/commit/23a4f72e93a63dcbb7296d40b4042e20eb5b8b6f The layouts may actually be unnecessary. Another thing we've discussed was the upcoming user/desktop session snap that will slot those interfaces on Core.
