Remove directory step takes too long
Metadata
Current evaluation
Snapcraft cleanup of a Chromium build directory takes 11–82 minutes under LXD after failure, blocking resumed builds; reproduced on 7.3.1 and 8.3.4 and awaiting triage.
Suggested action: needs triage
Reason: The exact message originates in craft-parts _remove(), which logs the directory and calls shutil.rmtree; the reporter measured 680.5 seconds on 7.3.1 and later 4910.6 seconds on 8.3.4, including after manually deleting the directory and resuming. The issue has no labels or maintainer response, and lacks file-count, filesystem, or syscall profiling needed to explain the pathological slowdown, so it needs triage rather than closure or immediate implementation.

Issue body
I run 'snapcraft --verbosity=debug --debug --use-lxd' for Chromium once. The build fails at some step.
I patch the issue and I run the same command again.
Now this part takes more than 10 min, which is unwarranted for the machine capacity performance (I'm using Canonistack), and hampers the try-debug iteration process.

Snapcraft version is 7.3.1.
