Current evaluation

Setting HOME=$SNAP_REAL_HOME reportedly makes empty user folders unusable; use cases are documented, but the open report lacks a minimal reproducer and has no identified fix.

Suggested action: keep open

Reason: Maintainer sergio-j-cazzolato requested context and the reporter supplied two concrete use cases, while the report states that snapd requested further investigation. It remains a valid behavior concern, but implementation needs an affected snap, exact command sequence, resulting permissions, and failure output.

Issue body

If a snap has `$SNAP_REAL_HOME` set in `$HOME` variable, when the snap is opened, it changes the permission of empty folders, making them unusable. More about this is discussed in the snapcraft forum. https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/snap-real-home-is-kinda-buggy/ A further investigation is requested by the snapd team. Thank you.
