Current evaluation

Request for canonical-provided core18-based snapcraft docker images (official ones were xenial-based). 7 years old, no comments or labels; core18 is EOL and the project has moved to core20+, so the request is no longer applicable.

Suggested action: close stale

Reason: The issue is 2526 days old with zero comments, no labels, and no maintainer interaction, and it specifically requests a core18-based image — core18 (Ubuntu 18.04) is now EOL and the project has explicitly moved on (PR snapcraft#3583 replaced core18 with core20 as snapcraft's base). The requested capability is no longer applicable to current bases, so it should be closed as stale rather than kept open.

Issue body

Official docker images with up to date snapcraft are provided on dockerhub here: https://hub.docker.com/r/snapcore/snapcraft But those images are all based on xenial (Ubuntu 16.04) and can't be used to build snaps based on core18 A manual fix is shown here by effectively replacing the `FROM` field with a bionic field https://snapcraft.io/docs/t/creating-docker-images-for-snapcraft/11739 It would be awesome if snapcraft core18 docker images would be provided by canonical instead of everyone by himself This would make it easier to use any cloud provider like gitlab-ci, travis-ci to create and publish snaps to the snapstore (not just for github users).
