Current evaluation

Remote-build preserves clean Git history, but auto-commits dirty trees before resolving version: git, yielding a different SHA-dirty version; warning versus pre-resolution remains undecided.

Suggested action: keep open

Reason: The reporter confirmed on 2024-01-25 that the new remote builder preserves clean history but auto-commits dirty trees, producing a version different from a local build. The maintainer listed warning, error, and no-auto-commit options, and said the best path still needed to be determined; no matching fixing commit was found.

Issue body

When `remote-build`ing with a `version: git` stanza, the SHA will be that of the Snapcraft-mangled source, not the original one. Snapcraft should probably resolve the `git` version before it sends the source up to Launchpad for building. Related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/snapcraft/+bug/1973199, though using `git describe` in override stanzas will obviously be affected by the mangling.
