Current evaluation

Kernel builds on Launchpad failed because modprobe was missing. Fixed by snapcore/snapcraft PR #2041, merged as commit 327552751, adding kmod to the kernel plugin's build-packages (plus /sbin on PATH); LP bug closed as fixed.

Resolution: closed resolved

Reason: Maintainer ~kyrofa pointed to snapcore/snapcraft PR #2041 ('kernel plugin: add kmod as build-package'), merged as commit 327552751. The kernel plugin still lists kmod in its build_packages set today (snapcraft/parts/plugins/kernel_plugin.py), and the Launchpad bug was closed as fixed.

Issue body

tested version: snapcraft 2.40, deb install kernel snap Snapcraft makes assumption there is modprobe present on the machine when checking kernel modules dependencies. This makes kernel build fail in Launchpad Just some options to fix the problem: - kernel plugin have build-package dependency for kmod - snapcraft deb package having dependency on kmod and snapcraft snap shipping with kmod included - modprobe check being optional Failed build log is here: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/362426003/buildlog_snap_ubuntu_xenial_arm64_snapdragon-kernel-fit-dmcrypt_BUILDING.txt.gz
